Before the first conversation.

8 October 2026 · By WOW Presence

Your company may have years of experience behind it. A person looking you up may have only a few minutes.

They might be a customer preparing for a meeting, a partner exploring your capabilities or a professional considering a role with you. Before they speak to your team, they begin forming an impression from what they can find.

That makes digital presence a communication responsibility. It should help people understand the business you have built.

Start with what people find

Look up your company as someone outside the business would. Read the homepage. Open the company’s LinkedIn page. Look at the profiles of the leaders a customer is likely to meet.

Then ask a few straightforward questions:

  • Can a visitor explain what we do after reading the homepage?
  • Does our content show our experience through actual projects, knowledge and people?
  • Do our website and leadership profiles tell a consistent story?
  • Is it easy to find a current contact and begin a conversation?

The answers give you a useful starting point for an audit. They also help separate important gaps from changes that only improve appearance.

Bring the knowledge out of the meeting room

Some of a company’s most useful knowledge stays in project discussions, technical presentations and conversations with customers. The team understands it, but people outside the business rarely see it.

A project can become a case study. A recurring customer question can become a clear technical explanation. A leader’s observation can become a thoughtful LinkedIn post. The material already exists; it needs context and a form the audience can use.

Keep the voice close to the people

Leadership content works best when the leader’s knowledge and perspective remain visible. Begin with a conversation about the work, the decisions and the lessons. Write from that substance, and let the person review how their views are represented.

The same care matters in corporate communication. Achievements become more useful when readers understand the challenge, the work behind it and what changed.

Make the next step clear

A visitor who understands your business should be able to contact you without searching through several pages. Keep your contact details current and test the links on a phone.

Review activity over time. Page views show what is being read. Contact clicks show where people take a next step. Neither measure, on its own, proves that an enquiry or business result followed.

One place to begin this month

Choose one important customer question your website does not answer clearly. Ask the right person in your team to explain it, add a supported example and publish a useful answer. That gives your audience something concrete to understand and your team a practical starting point.

At WOW Presence, we bring business knowledge into clear website, LinkedIn and leadership content. If you would like to review what people currently find about your company, start a conversation with us.
